A Little Prayer

Where do you mothers
raise your darling daughters?
Surely not into some war?

Where do you fathers
send your loving sons?
Surely not to arms;
that ain’t right?

What piece of land
could anyone ever
take with them from here?
Can you tell?

What dove of peace
could anyone ever
see rising from a grave?
Can you tell?

It’s nothing but a hum;
the sky is sad and gray,
and suddenly, for some love,
I must pray.

Love is the light
that asks us to pray.
Love is the light
of every day.

Love is the dawn,
love is the heart,
love is the light
of every day.

Once Upon a Time – Remember Me

Once upon a time –
we were drowning in stars.
Once upon a time –
we were drowning in timelessness.
Once upon a time –
we were drowning deep in each other’s eyes
when we first met.

Was it yesterday –
or a life long gone?
Have we crossed paths before
or just been lost along the way?

Still,  when you tell the truth, remember me,
when you long to lie, remember me,
when you dance and laugh, remember me,
when you wish to die, remember me.

There are countless poems
about love – let them be,
and countless sunsets to feel and see,
but none of them can tell the tale:
once upon a time,
there were just us –
you and me.
